Dreamworks stated on July 9, 2024, that a fifth Shrek film, titled Shrek 5, is in the works. DreamWorks official instagram handle posted on 9th July “Not too Far, Far Away… @shrek 5 is coming to theaters on July 1, 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.”
However, Eddie Murphy (who portrays Donkey in the franchise) confirmed the news earlier this year. Murphy revealed to Collider in June that he has already filmed his portion for the upcoming picture and that there would be a Donkey spinoff movie.
“We began doing Shrek 4 or [Shrek] 5 months ago. I achieved this; I taped the first act, and we will finish it this year. Shrek is coming out, and Donkey will have his own movie. We’ll do Donkey as well. So we’re going to do a Shrek and a Donkey [film],” he explained.
